Throw Dirt
Hi,
Today i was bored so i decided to try out the popular W/Mo "Paladin" build, and tweaked it a little. I got into the battle and went for the ranger as the opposing team was made up of other W/Mo who just went for the Ele's in my team. I started slashing him and i thought "this is easy" as his life went down quickly, but then he used "Throw Dirt" and I missed every time i tried to attack due to the blindness and he basically owned me big time with poison and his Warrior buddies coming to back him up.
My main char is a level 11 R/Me (yes i'm a relatively new player), i know what throw dirt is but whenever i made a PVP ranger i thought it was useless and i would never use it so i replaced it with something like "Kindle Arrows".
I then tried a PVP with a Ranger/Me build and it somehow got to so that all my team were dead and all the W/Mo's team was dead.
I've seen alot of posts saying Warriors can completely own Rangers, but in that fight i just about defeated the W/Mo. It may just be chance but i used Throw Dirt then backed that up with some shooting, disrupted his healing attempts and kept repeating the use of Throw Dirt, Pin Down, Poison Arrow and some power shots and using Troll Ungeant on myself whenver he got me if Pin Down or the blindness stopped.
Sorry for quite a long thread when i could have explained it briefly, just wanted to explain the situation(s). This isn't a 'Rangers own Warriors' post, its sort of more of a question, asking whether actually can Rangers defeat Warriors with Throw Dirt, not thinking of possible cures from Monks etc.
Thanks.

Well, seeing as how you did defeated a Warrior with throw dirt, I do think it is actually possible to defeat them with it.

If he can't kill you between when Throw Dirt wears off (13 seconds I believe) and when it recharges (45 seconds I believe) then he's not a very good warrior. I often have to use Throw Dirt and Pin Down just to keep warriors off my back.
A lot of things are circumstantial too. A W/N will smash me, because he can Plague Touch any conditions I put on him, like Blindless, Cripple, and Poison. A W/Mo, however, is generally less of a threat because if he enchants himself he gives my Melandru's Arrows +21 damage.
Poison, along with every other damage over time, becomes far less effective in the level 20 arenas. 8 dps is great when they only have 200 HP, but not so much when they have 500.
PS, this is in the wrong area.

I tanked 2 warriors in team arena the other night. I killed one of the warriors with poison arrow [E], and dryders/whirling defense before his buddy was sent packing.
Really nice to hear them cutting the air around me.
Throw dirt comes under the category of expertise. It's a nice skill to use on warriors and it's only 5 energy to cast it. It gets quite effective with higher points assigned to expertise.
I like throwing it on a warrior as i'm passing while they are going sword to sword. Always makes me laugh.

"Throw Dirt" is useless if the warrior is smart enough to bring the spamable "Mend Ailment".

Actually... I believe you are thinking of ignite arrows. I am 99% sure that the kindle arrows is not found in pre-searing, or else my short-lived ranger would've gotten it for sure.

You are correct. The guy in pre-searing gives you Ignite and Dual Shot. Kindle is in the Courthouse (north of Piken Square, check GWG's interactive map).

But when the blindness wore off i just pinned him and used storm chaser and just kept on shooting until i could use Throw Dirt again. If i had Dust Trap i would have just put that beneath me whilst he was coming with cripple.

Odd how everyone seems to determin a classes worth by how it can solo other classes. Wake up it's how your ability to compliment other calsses that is you key to victory.
I agree that this is hard in random group but try this.
Bring Serpents Quickness, Distracting Shot and Deabilitating shot and RES sig.
When the fight starts target thier healer or nuker. Thewn you get in range use serpents quicklness. Wait for thier first spell and distract it. The deabilitate them. This distract the next. Then deabilate again. By now your teams should have moped the floor with it. Move on to the next raget and do it again.
Bring along a few other abilites to compliment you too, maybe choking gas or apply posion.
If you go into a fight with complimenting your teams abilities rather then tryying to Pwn everything you'll be alot more usefull.
THAT is what guild wars is about. Working together. That is why alot of people miss the potential of the ranger class by miles.

This thread wasn't really about that (in my view), its was contradicting how people go on about how Warriors can own Rangers.

From your description of your fight with the ranger that opened your eyes (by blinding you), I'm nearly certain that ranger was me.
You're welcome.

Any class can own any other class if they're built to do it. If your ranger is built to kill warriors, you'll do it.. but you won't be as effective against the enemy monk or mesmer. If your mesmer counters casters, a warrior will slay you. If you're a smiting monk that kills warriors with pbaoe and shield of judgement, you might have trouble with an elementalist, and so on. So this topic is kind of moot.
